Do you have a Scoliosis? What is a Scoliosis? All children and adults shoul have their spines screened for a lateral curvature of the spine: a Scoliosis Screening. Please call 604-733-7744 to have Dr. Michael Horowitz evaluate your spine for posture and scoliosis.
Scoliosis (from Greek: skolíōsis meaning "crooked") is a medical condition in which a person's spine is curved from side to side, shaped like an "s", and may also be rotated.
Conservative treatment of scoliosis through chiropractic, massage, stretches and activity modification can help prevent the progression of a scoliotic curve and in some cases reduce the degree of that curve.

It is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. On an x-ray, viewed from the rear, the spine of an individual with a typical scoliosis may look more like an "S" or a "C" than a straight line. It is typically classified as congenital (caused by vertebral anomalies present at birth), idiopathic (sub-classified as infantile, juvenile, adolescent, or adult according to when onset occurred) or as neuromuscular, having developed as a secondary symptom of another condition, such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy or due to physical trauma.
Double Scoliosis Treatment in Vancouver IIScoliosis may be “fixed” as a result of muscle and/or bone deformity or “mobile” as a result of unequal muscle contraction.
Scoliosis predisposes individuals to back pain, headache, and other posture-related disorders. In rare, severe cases, the curvature can lead to difficulty breathing or heart problems due to a lack of space from the deformed ribcage. A scoliosis is classified based on an angle measurement taken from a full spine x-ray.

MILD - under 15 degree angle
MODERATE - 15 to 30 degree angle
SEVERE - greater than 30 degree angle
